Serious concerns have been raised about a type of lateral flow test widely used to detect Covid cases in the UK after the American regulator told people to throw them away over fears about their accuracy.
More than a billion of the tests have been delivered to the UK by the American company Innova Medical Group. They are being used to monitor infections in schoolchildren and for mass asymptomatic testing.
They have also been relied on for large events, including a pilot scheme that included the admission of 18,000 spectators to the cricket match between England and New Zealand at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham this week.
