Morrisons shoppers will not be able to enter stores without a face covering, the retailer has announced. Those visiting the branches from today will be subject to the new rules.
Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: "Those who are offered a face covering and decline to wear one won't be allowed to shop at Morrisons unless they are medically exempt.
"Our store colleagues are working hard to feed you and your family, please be kind."
Wearing face coverings became mandatory in UK supermarkets during the summer last year.
The government rules were put into place to help protect colleagues and customers when visiting branches.
DON'T MISS
The latest announcement from Morrisons come as the government is expected to introduce tougher lockdown measures.
It is also part of a crack down on customers who are not wearing masks in stores.
Morrisons colleagues will also wear face coverings when inside the supermarket.
Posting a video on Twitter, the supermarket giant shared an update for shoppers.
It explained the shopping rules that should be followed for all visiting branches.
It stated: "Throughout these tough times we're here for you.
"We've made it easier and safer to shop with us and our colleagues are here to ensure stores don't become too busy and that social distancing guidelines are maintained.
"We have free hand and trolley sanitiser and our colleagues will be wearing face coverings in stores."
Morrisons has also announced an update of its Click and Collect service which could cut back on how long customers need to be inside stores.
The service will now be offered at 447 Morrisons branches across the country.
Customers simply need to order online, choose a slot and pick up their shopping at that time.
Morrisons online operations director Miles Foster said: "We are doing everything we can to increase the amount of home delivery slots available but we recognise that the slots get snapped up quickly in lockdown.
"Click and Collect is an excellent alternative and is proving really popular with customers.
"Since the first lockdown we have expanded our Click and Collect service significantly and it is now available from 447 of our stores across the country.
"We have slots available now nationwide so our customers can get the groceries they need in a contact-free and convenient way.”
