Are flights cancelled? TUI, Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet updates due to UK lockdown - The Sun

BRITS with holidays abroad from this week are likely to find their trips cancelled, due to the new lockdown announced by the UK government.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Saturday that the country will be forced to follow the new lockdown rules from this Thursday.

This means holidays, both in the UK and abroad, are not allowed to go ahead, along with any other non-essential travel.

Airlines and tour operators are likely to cancel any upcoming flights and holidays - here is the latest advice from them.

TUI

TUI has cancelled all holidays and flights from England and Wales from November 4 until December 2.

Scotland flights and holidays will continue as normal.

Andrew Flintham, Managing Director of TUI UK and Ireland said: “The UK Government’s latest decision to implement a second national lockdown is another blow for the travel industry, which has already been brought to its knees after almost eight months of continued uncertainty.

"However, public health must be the priority right now and we therefore cannot take customers on holiday from England and Wales from 5th November up until 2nd December.

“We will continue to monitor the Government’s advice and review our holiday programme in line with this. We hope we can take our customers away to the sunshine soon so they can escape the long, cold winter nights.”

A spokesperson added: "If holidays are unable to take place, customers will be notified and offered the option to amend with an incentive, receive an ATOL-protected refund credit note with a re-booking incentive, or cancel and receive a full cash refund within 14 days."

EasyJet

EasyJet are reviewing their flights and holidays planned during the lockdown period but said it was "likely" they would be cancelled until next month.

EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said in a statement: “Following the Government’s sudden announcement today, easyJet will operate its planned schedule until Thursday and will be reviewing its flying programme over the lockdown period.

“It is likely that much of the UK touching schedule will be cancelled during lockdown with our planned flying set to resume in early December.

“We will advise customers who are booked to travel over the next month of their options with a view to assisting customers to return to the country in the coming days."

An easyJet spokesperson added that passengers who want to alter their flights can change them for free.

Ryanair

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has said that passengers won't be given refunds unless their flights are cancelled.

He told the BBC Today programme: "If a flight is operating then no, we will not be offering refunds.

"But what customers can avail of is our change facility and we've waived the change fee so if they have booking in November they can change it and move it to December or January if needs be. But there won't be refunds on flights that are operating and travelling."]

A Ryanair spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: "Ryanair recently announced it is reducing its winter schedule taking capacity down to 40 per cent compared to the prior year. Following these reductions, our revised UK schedule will operate as normal.

"Customers who do not wish to travel can change their November flights to a later date with no change fee”.

What are the new lockdown rules

From November 5, only essential travel will be allowed with Brits urged not to leave their house unless for reasons including food, medical care or work.

In regard to holidays and travelling, the government has issued the following advice: "Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed.

"This includes holidays abroad and in the UK.

"It also means you cannot stay in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.

"There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes, but this means people cannot travel overseas or within the UK, unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons."

British Airways

British Airways are yet to announce any cancellations, although are expected to offer vouchers and refunds for any flights after the Thursday dates.

A spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: "We note the Prime Minister's announcement of a new national lockdown for England to slow the spread of Covid-19.

"Like other businesses, we are assessing the new information and we will keep our customers updated on any changes to their travel plans."

Jet2

Jet2 is currently operating holidays until Wednesday, but is yet to update holidays after this.

They said in a statement on social media: "Following the UK government announcement yesterday (31 October) about additional restrictions in England, we are working with the government to obtain much-needed clarity about what it means for those wishing to holiday overseas.

"We are planning to operate as normal between now and Wednesday 4 November, so customers wanting to get away from the cold and gloom can still book and travel as normal."

Brits who don't want to travel ahead of the lockdown can change their booking to a later date for free.

They added: "If flights or holidays are affected by any changes, we will contact customers to advise them of their options."

Anyone currently abroad is told to continue their holidays as normal.

Here is everything to know about getting a refund if your holiday or flights are affected.

You are entitled to a cash refund if they've cancelled your holiday but many have large delays or may offer vouchers instead.

If the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all but essential travel to countries or regions, you may also be covered for cancellations by your travel insurance if the holiday provider or airline is not helping you.
