The quarantine period upon arrival to the UK will be reduced from 14 days to five in a bid to revive the airline industry, Boris Johnson is expected to announce.
Under the new test and release scheme, due to begin early next month, travellers returning from “high risk” countries will be allowed to leave self-isolation provided they test negative for coronavirus on the fifth day.
Fast-turnaround tests, which produce results inside an hour, will be used to prevent further strain on NHS resources.
