Car sales remain stuck in reverse gear | Business - The Times

Hopes for a recovery in car sales have been punctured after motor dealers reported their worst September since the turn of the century.

New registrations fell by 4.4 per cent last month to 328,041, the lowest level since 1999, when the biannual registration plate change system was introduced.

In the year to date, including three months in the spring in which showrooms were closed during the depths of the Covid-19 outbreak, new car sales are down by a third to 1.24 million.
