THE threat of a second wave of coronavirus will stay with Brits for a "very long time" - with a fresh national lockdown not ruled out.

Boris Johnson today told the No10 briefing shutting the UK down again to combat the disease is not something the government wants.

But the PM didn't rule out the possibility of a second lockdown - branding it the "ultimate resort".

His warning came ahead of Super Saturday tomorrow when pubs are due to reopen at 6am for thirsty Brits.

But Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said the possibility of a second wave of coronavirus will stay with the UK for a "very long time".

The top adviser urged people to keep following social distancing rules as the restrictions are eased, adding: “If individuals, families and firms do not take them seriously the possibility of a second wave goes up sharply.”

Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance also told the briefing there will be a "big increase in local outbreaks" after Leicester was forced to stay in lockdown due to a spike in cases.

And he warned winter is the "big risk", adding: "It's been suppressed and we need to keep it suppressed for a more Covid-safe world."

It comes ahead Super Saturday, meaning Brits can finally sit in their local and order a pint three months after they were ordered to temporarily close amid the coronavirus crisis.

Restaurants and cafes are also allowed to start serving customers again and not just for takeaways.

Some of the other rules included to keep people safe from Saturday will include:

Pubs will be allowed to show the football - but only with the sound on quietly to stop droplets spreading when people shout
People are only allowed to go to the pub with one other household
Customers will have to leave their contact details with pubs or restaurants for 21 days - so they can be tracked if there is an outbreak
A limit on numbers inside a venue at any one time
People should be encouraged to use contactless payments rather than cash
Customers should stay seated at the table and wait to be served rather than going up to the bar
Tables must be as spaced out as possible to keep a distance, and venues should be kept ventilated

The Government said that most of the new rules and regulations would be in place just after midnight.

But pubs wouldn't be allowed to reopen until 6am - just in case anyone wanted to try and get a late-night pint in.

Boris today warned the Government would be forced to step in if people did not behave as pub's reopen tomorrow.

He said: "Just as when we first locked down, we will only succeed in reopening if everyone works together. Because we are not out of the woods yet.

"The virus is still with us and the spike in Leicester has shown that. If it starts running out of control again the Government will not hesitate in putting on the brakes and re-imposing restrictions.

"If the previous measures have not proven to be enough we will introduce to extend whole communities as in Leicester.

"That could mean shutting business venues, closing schools or urging people to stay at home."
