Gyms and swimming pools open today after lockdown as Brits flock to special classes from midnight - The Sun

GYMS have reopened TODAY after lockdown as Brits flocked to classes that started at midnight.

The David Lloyd gym in Hampton reopened at midnight for a special class with Jeff Brazier and eager fitness fanatics.

Indoor swimming pools have finally reopened after being closed since March

In Cambridge, gym staff were seen sanitising weights and equipment while wearing PPE.

Indoor gyms, swimming pools and sports facilitates in England can reopen their doors under strict guidance to prevent an explosion of cases.

Brits will notice some drastic changes when they get back to their gyms.

Water fountains will not be in use and will be replaced by hand sanitiser.

People will also be expected to wipe down machines and equipment after use, so it is safe for the next person's workout.

Chain gyms are allowed to keep changing rooms open, but this is at each fitness centre's disceretion.

Gym goers are advised to arrive ready in workout clothes, to avoid people gathering in changing rooms.

Indoor gyms in Northern Ireland opened earlier this month, but they remain shut in Scotland and Wales.

Outdoor gyms have been open in England since July 4.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed that gyms and sports facilities in Luton and Blackburn with Darwen will remain closed because of a spike in cases in those areas.

It is another step towards normality as Boris Johnson is trying help boost Britain's ailing economy which has been ravaged by the pandemic.

If cases stay low then more will be able to reopen this year.

Casinos, leisure centres and bowling alleys in England will be allowed to reopen in August.

Theatres, pantos and musicals can finally return from August 1.

Football fans will get back into stadiums by October.

Beauticians were given the green light to reopen from July 4 but are not allowed to carry out and treatments on customers' faces, including eyebrow threading and facials.

However, nightclubs and soft play areas must remain closed.
