It is already a county winner and now a traditional village boozer in East Yorkshire is vying for the overall title of National Pub & Bar of the Year 2024.
The Old Star, at Kilham, near Driffield, currently ranks among the best in the Yorkshire and Humber region, according to organisers of the National Pub & Bar Awards. It is the only East Yorkshire inn having a look-in; the other contenders are The Red Cow, at Fishtoft in Lincolnshire; The Harrogate Inn, North Yorkshire; the Public, South Yorkshire and the Call Lane Social, in West Yorkshire.
These areas winners will join a total of 94 county champions from across the UK at the National Pub & Bar Awards grand final, to be held in London on June 26. Here, 15 regional winners will be crowned, along with the prize pub or bar of the lot.

A spokesperson for The Old Star, in Church Street, said: “Obviously we are very proud of our achievement of winning the East Riding National Pub & Bar Awards. This is the third time we've won this award.
“With Covid and the cost of living crisis, it's been such a hard industry and we've seen many village pubs like us shut. So it's fantastic to get this award.
“We are hopeful for the nationals. As a small village pub we are just so proud of being open and using beef from our own farm, ice cream from another local farm, and primarily local produce.”
Trade publication Pub & Bar hosts the annual awards as a way of rewarding operators for overall retail excellence, best practice and individual entrepreneurship across the UK’s 94 counties.
