The UK has secured a new vaccine deal with Pfizer worth £1billion, reports suggest. Britain has ordered an additional 35milllion doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine from the American pharmaceutical company.
New doses are set to be deployed during the autumn of next year as a part of Britain's continued booster campaign, The Times reveals.
The news comes after the European Union secured an order of 900million jabs for the next two years.
The Times claims the UK Government will formally announce the £1billion deal later this week.
Pfizer jabs are set to be more 20 percent expensive than they were in Britain's previous orders.
While many Britons over the age of 40 would have been jabbed with a dose of the Anglo-Swedish vaccine, early trials of the Pfizer jab indicate improved immune responses to a "mix and match" of vaccines.
The news comes just days after the UK's vaccine regulator announced Pfizer-BioNTech is safe to be used on over-12s.
The UK has already pushed ahead with plans to launch its first booster campaign in the coming weeks.
Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, said: "When it comes to booster jabs we are waiting for the final advice from JCVI, our group of independent clinical advisers, and when we get that advice we will be able to start the booster programme, but I anticipate it will begin in early September, so I’m already making plans for that.”

The same data indicates that 75 percent of adults in the UK are fully inoculated.
The UK has also recorded 23,510 new COVID-19 cases and the highest amount of daily deaths - 146 - since March 12.
