Staveley loses £1bn claim against Barclays over Saudi rescue deal - The Times

A City financier who accused Barclays of improperly denying her tens of millions of pounds in fees from its 2008 rescue deal has lost her claim.

Amanda Staveley failed to persuade the High Court that she should have received £1 billion for her role in bringing a member of the Saudi royal family into a £7.3 billion deal to save the bank during the financial crisis.

However, Mr Justice Waksman ruled that Barclays had committed “serious deceit” towards Staveley by claiming that she would get the same deal as other investors. He criticised Barclays’ attempts to denigrate Staveley, saying that she was a “ tough, clever and creative entrepreneur”.
