The towns inside the M25 that won't be part of the London lockdown - My London

Some people think of everywhere within the M25 as being part of London - but that isn't the case.

So, although London is getting stricter lockdown rules from 0.01am on Saturday, October 17 many locations that border the city and are within the boundaries of the huge motorway will not suffer tougher restrictions.

On Saturday morning Londoners will wake up to a whole new set of rules as a Tier 2 lockdown begins.

Households will no longer be able to mix in any indoor setting unless they area part of a support bubble. And if households do meet outside they can only do so in groups of up to six.

Pubs and restaurants will remain open, as will shops and gyms, although the 10pm curfew will remain in place.

But where does the Tier 2 lockdown begin and end?

When it comes to the M25, the massive circular motorway cuts through Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and Kent.

This means some towns inside the motorway boundary will not be faced with tougher restrictions.

It is worth noting that residents of Elmbridge, in Surrey, which borders parts of South London have also been moved into Tier 2.

Essex has also been moved into Tier 2, although the districts of Thurrock and Southend, which are in the county of Essex remain in Tier 1, as they aren't governed by Essex County Council.

Among the places inside the M25 that remain in Tier 1 are Dartford and Swanley in Kent, Staines, Chertsey and Addlestone in Surrey, Watford, Borehamwood and Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire.
