Donald Trump posts emotional tribute to Boris Johnson as he recovers from coronavirus - Daily Express

The President left hospital on Tuesday after spending three nights being treated for COVID-19. Mr Trump has previously described Mr Johnson as a “very good friend” and nicknamed him “Britain Trump”.

On Wednesday he tweeted: “Just spoke with Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom.

“Very thankful for his friendship and support as I recovered from the China Virus.

“I am looking forward to working with him for many years to come, a great guy!”

Mr Trump was taken to the Walter Reed military hospital on Friday night after announcing he had tested positive for coronavirus the day before.

There were reports the president had been struggling to breath properly prior to his hospitalisation.

During his stay Mr Trump was treated with a variety of medications including remdesivir, an antiviral drug linked to a reduction in coronavirus fatalities.

Mr Johnson also suffered from COVID-19 having been diagnosed with the infection back in April.

The Prime Minister spent three days in an intensive care ward receiving assistance to breath.

“I was very surprised because he called me, almost you know, pretty close to when he got out of the hospital.

“I think he's doing great, I think he's doing great. He was so sharp and energetic, pretty incredible, he's an incredible guy.

“He's a friend of ours and a friend of mine.

“He loves our country, he loves his country a lot, but he loves our country, he respects our country and they're lucky to have him over there.”

On Wednesday Sean Conley, Mr Trump’s doctor, said the president had been symptoms free for over 24 hours.

Mr Conley stated: “His physical exam and vital signs, including oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, all remain stable and in normal range.”

On November 3 Mr Trump will face a challenge from Joe Biden, the Democratic Party nominee, who is attempting to take the presidency.

Recent polling suggests Mr Biden has a comfortable national lead and smaller leads in a number of swing states.

President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus epidemic, which he originally downplayed, has been one of the most contentious election issues.

The UK and US have recorded the most coronavirus cases in Europe and the world respectively.
